PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for determining the health of an inkjet print head without consuming ink.SOLUTION: A method includes creating in an ink-fillable ejection chamber a pressure wave that is below a threshold value necessary to eject a normal sized ink drop with a piezoelectric element, and generating an electrical signal based on the induced pressure wave. An analyzer is configured to analyze one or more characteristics of the electrical signal to determine ejection performance of an inkjet ejector.
