An electrically heated tunnel furnace 1 for the heat treatment of wound ribbon magnetic cores 4, is provided at its charging end with a pneumatically actuated push-rod 5 which feeds the cores whilst compressing them, one against another from an inclined shoot 3 through the furnace tunnel 2, which is provided with longitudinally extending guide means (not shown), to a synchronously operating discharge mechanism 6. The latter, shown in plan view in Fig. 5, comprises a wedge-shaped stop 11 in the line of the path of the cores 4 through the tunnel, which stop is backed by a laterally movable wedge 13. Spring-loaded pins 12 secured to the stop 11 and extending through a wide aperture in wedge 13, tend to pull the stop away from the front face of the leading core, but the backing wedge 13 prevents this. On actuation of pneumatically-operated slide member 15, wedge 13 moves with it to the left, thereby allowing the pins 12 to pull back the stop 11 to release the pressure on the line of cores, whilst simultaneously push-rod 14, which is also connected to slide member 15, moves with it to the left to displace the leading core into outlet passage 19. |
