Provided is a method for producing a barium titanate powder, said method being characterized by comprising the steps of: adding an aqueous slurry of anatase-type hydrous titanium oxide to an aqueous solution of barium hydroxide while maintaining the aqueous solution at a temperature falling within the range from 80˚C to the boiling point under ambient pressure to cause the reaction between the barium hydroxide with the hydrous titanium oxide, thereby producing an aqueous slurry of a barium titanate precursor, wherein the hydrous titanium oxide has a BET specific surface area of 200 to 400 m2/g and the half width of a diffraction peak of face (101) is 2.3 to 5.0˚ when the hydrous titanium oxide is subjected to an X-ray diffraction measurement; and then subjecting the barium titanate precursor thus produced to a hydrothermal treatment for a period of time that is shorter than 24 hours to produce barium titanate particles. |
