<p>Provided are: an optical compensation film having biaxial anisotropy, which can be produced at low cost by a coating method with a smaller number of steps and can be formed thinner in comparison to a multilayer film, while exhibiting solvent resistance and heat resistance with respect to a step for forming an alignment film; a method for producing this optical compensation film; and an electrode substrate which uses this optical compensation film. An optical compensation film (12) which contains at least one polyimide which contains at least one monomer unit (N) derived from an aromatic diamine having an -OCO- group and/or a -COO- group and at least one monomer unit (C) derived from an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. If x is the major axis direction of a polyimide molecule, which is a rod-like molecule, y is the direction perpendicular to the x-direction in a plane parallel to the film surface, z is the film thickness direction and nx, ny and nz are respectively the refractive indexes in the x-direction, the y-direction and the z-direction, nx > ny > nz is satisfied.</p> |
