PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress reduction in accuracy of the determination of the remaining amount of toner, while reducing downtime due to a toner remaining amount checking sequence as much as possible.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier; a developing device that includes a developer carrier carrying developer and develops an electrostatic image formed on the image carrier; a supply device that supplies toner to the developing device; a density detection unit that detects information on the density of toner that is a ratio between the toner and carrier included in the developer in the developing device; and a control unit that can execute a toner checking mode of interrupting image forming operation and supplying the toner from the supply device to the developing device, where the control unit selectively executes at least a first state of immediately inhibiting image formation, a second state of permitting image forming operation, and a third state of executing the mode again, on the basis of a result of the detection by the density detection unit acquired after the start of the execution of the mode. |
