<p>3beta-Hydroxy-6alpha- or 6beta-cholestanes or -stimastanes of formula: (where R is opt. branched alkyl, arylalkyl, dialkylaminoalkyl or H; R1 is H or ethyl; R and R1 are not both H) are useful as hypocholesteremic agents. The cpds. are prepd. by condensing a 6-oxo-stigmastan- or -cholestan-3beta-ol with an amine; or by reducing the oxime of a 6-oxo-cpd. with LiAlH4, and opt. alkylating the 6-NH2 group with an alkyl halide. 6-Dialkylaminoalkylamino-cholestan-3beta-ols are prefd. or similarly substd. stigmastanols, or the 6-phenylamino, - benzylamino- or -aminostigmastanols. In an example, the preparation from 6-oxo-stigmastanol + an amine requires 50-100 degrees C, 20-120 kg/cm2 pressure of H2, and Pd/C catalyst.</p> |
