<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-component base coating material good in coating workability, exhibiting no unevenness generation, and capable of forming a repaired coated film whose color is coincident with the color of an existing coated film; and to provide a color toning method and a repairing coating method using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The multi-component base coating material is obtained by combining a metallic coating composition (I) and a thickener composition (II). The metallic coating composition (I) contains a cellulose derivative (A1), an acryl resin (B1), a polyester resin (C1) and a luster pigment (D1). The thickener composition (II) contains a cellulose derivative (A2), an acryl resin (B2), a polyester resin (C2) and a thickener (E).
