<p>The invention relates to a method for controlling an operator control device (1), in particular for a motor vehicle, having a display device (2) and having a sensor device (3). A signal can be generated by means of the sensor device (3) by moving a body part of the user, in particular the user's hand (4), in the vicinity of the display device (2). A signalling field is output, in particular in an event-controlled fashion, on the display device (2). The user acknowledges the signalling field with a free space gesture of the body part.
