According to embodiments described in the specification, an electronic communication device and method for processing messages are provided. The method comprises receiving message data at a processor of the computing device, the message data comprising one or more of an address, a subject and a body; receiving a state indicator at the processor, the state indicator being an indication of a state of the message data; storing the message data and the state indicator in a memory of the computing device, the state indicator being stored in association with the message data; determining, at the processor of the computing device, if the state indicator indicates that the message data is in a draft state; and when the determination is affirmative, preventing transmission of the message data.

1. A method of processing messages in a computing device having a processor interconnected with a memory, a display and an input device, the method comprising:
providing, on the display, a messaging interface including two options, each selectable for creating a new message; upon receiving, at the processor from the input device, a selection of either one of the two options, providing a message creation interface on the display, comprising an element selectable for generating an instruction to transmit a message; receiving message data at the processor, the message data comprising one or more of an address, a subject and a body; setting a state indicator upon provision of the message creation interface on the display, based on which one of the two options was selected via the input device, and updating the state indicator if an update is received at the processor from the input device, the state indicator being an indication of a state of the message data; storing the message data and the state indicator in the memory, the state indicator being stored in association with the message data; determining, by the processor, if the state indicator indicates that the message data is in a draft state; and when the determination is affirmative, preventing transmission of the message data by updating the message creation interface to render the element non-selectable.
