PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively discharge raw water in an upper layer part of a raw water pond without raising bottom mud in the raw water pond as much as possible.SOLUTION: A water intake device 90 takes in raw water 302 stored in a raw water pond 300, such as storage reservoir, a fire prevention water tank, and a pool. Bottom mud 301 is deposited on the bottom of the raw water pond 300, the raw water 302 is stored on the bottom mud 301, and an upper layer part of the raw water 302 is supernatant water. The water intake device 90 includes a raw water temporarily-storing container 93 formed by arranging sheathing boards 92 around a bottom plate 91, a submersible pump P1 arranged on the bottom plate 91, and floats 94 as a floatation member for floating a water intake device body so that top ends of the sheathing boards 92 are set lower than the water level of the raw water pond 300. The raw water 302 overflowing the sheathing boards 92 is discharged by the submersible pump P1.
