Network management requests may be transmitted in JSON messages over a WebSocket connection to a network device. The network device may process the request and generate a response. The response may be transmitted back over the WebSocket connection in a series of partial response messages. A method of transmitting large data over the WebSocket connection includes transmitting a first message having an identifier value through a WebSocket connection and transmitting a second message having the identifier value through the WebSocket connection, in which the second message comprises an end-of-response indicator.
