PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact device which facilitates elongation of an arc that is generated in electrode opening, and an electromagnetic contactor employing the same.SOLUTION: In a contact device 100, a movable contact 130 is disposed so as to be contacted to and separated from a pair of stationary contacts 106a and 106b. The pair of stationary contacts are formed in a U-shape opening inner sides opposing each other from a contact base part 118 disposed in parallel with an upper plate part 116 while keeping a predetermined interval therebetween at a lower side of the upper plate part, and a connection plate part 117 concatenating the upper plate part and the contact base part. The movable contact is disposed so as to be contacted to and separated from the contact base part between the upper plate part and the contact base part of the pair of stationary contacts, and in a contact part of the contact base part 118 opposing the movable contact, contact particles are disposed without generating a step that disturbs movement of the arc.
