PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely restart an engine from an original start position of a variable valve mechanism even if a time from a start of a fuel cut by an automatic stop request up to the generation of a restart request is short, in an idle stop system of the engine which is mounted with the variable valve mechanism.SOLUTION: In a motor driven variable valve lift mechanism 37, when the conduction power of a motor is not higher than a prescribed value within a prescribed range in which an operation position includes a start position, the operation position is held at the start position. When there occurs an automatic stop request during the operation of an engine, firstly control for moving operation positions of the variable valve lift mechanism 37 and a variable valve timing mechanism 38 to start positions is performed, and when it is determined that the variable valve lift mechanism 37 is brought into a start position holding state (state that the operation position is within a prescribed range and brought into a state that the conduction power of the motor reaches the prescribed value or lower), and also when it is determined that the operation position of the variable valve timing mechanism 38 is within a prescribed range including the start position, a fuel cut is started. |
