<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and safely producing a 4-vinylguaiacol polymeric compound having excellent anticancer activity, and to provide an anticancer agent containing the compound as an effective ingredient. <P>SOLUTION: The production method of the 4-vinylguaiacol polymeric compound expressed by formula (1) includes heat-treating ferulic acid under alkaline conditions.
