<p>Catalyst is prepd. by transformation of brown TiCl3 to violet TiCl3 in contact with TiCl4 below 100 degrees C. For example brown TiCl3 suspended in pure liquid TiCl4 is heated for 5-45 min (pref. 15-30 min) at 40-80 degrees C (pref. 60 degrees C) or for 24h at room temp. Alternatively brown TiCl3 suspended in 10-30 vol.% TiCl4 containing an inert 5-10C hyerocarbon diluent is heated for 1/2 - 12 hrs. at 40-80 degrees C. It is also prepd. by fluidising brown TiCl3 with gaseous TiCl4 (with diluent) for 1-48 hrs at 50-100 degrees C. Brown TiCl3 is pref. prepd. by reduction of TiCl4 with an organo metallic cpd. impregnated into a support (alumina). In absence of TiCl4, transformation to violet TiCl3 occurs above 100 degrees C whereas in its presence transformation advantageously occurs at lower temp.</p> |
