<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holding device capable of dealing with various workpieces, which is suitable for weight reduction. <P>SOLUTION: This is a work holding device 1 to be installed to a robot arm for transportation of various workpieces W, which includes: a support plate 22 to be coupled with the robot arm; a holding mechanism 11 to be installed to the support plate 22 for holding a part Wa to be held of the workpiece W; a freely moving mechanism 12 for supporting movably the holding mechanism 11; and a movement restriction device 13 for restricting the movement of the holding mechanism 11.
