PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus which generates an image in which a main subject is expressed in a suitable gradation range.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus detects a main subject from an image to be corrected and sets a first correction characteristic for expanding gradation width larger in a luminance range including more pixels to be classified, on the basis of luminance distribution of an image obtained by weighting the main subject. Further, the image processing apparatus sets a second correction characteristic for expanding the gradation width larger in an area having a high focusing degree, on the basis of a luminance distribution of an image obtained by weighting the area having the high focusing degree. Then the image processing apparatus corrects the gradation of the image, on the basis of a third correction characteristic composed by weighting the first correction characteristic and the second correction characteristic. |
