PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio tag communication device that assists in searching for a radio tag until the radio tag is identified as the distance to the search object radio tag comes close to a short distance from a long distance.SOLUTION: A radio tag communication device for communicating with a radio tag comprises: a communication unit that designates an object radio tag and reads out tag information stored in the radio tag; a reading state determination unit for determining a reading state of the tag information by the communication unit; an output adjusting unit for increasing or decreasing radio wave output to transmit to the radio tag depending on the determination result of the reading state determination unit; a signal intensity detection unit for detecting the signal intensity of a response signal from the radio tag received via the communication unit; and a control unit for switching the operation mode of the communication unit between a long distance mode in which the device communicates with the radio tag while increasing or decreasing the radio wave output by the output adjusting unit, and a short distance mode in which the device communicates with the radio tag while detecting the signal intensity by the signal intensity detection unit.
