PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide preparation and isolation of novel polymorphic (-)-(cis)-FTC [(4-amino-5-fluoro-1-(2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-oxathiolan-5-yl)-2-(1H)-pyrimidinone)(2R-cis) orβ-L-2-hydroxymethyl-5-(5-fluoro-cytosin-1-yl)-1,3-oxathiolane].SOLUTION: Crystalline polymorphic compounds display following angular positions (2θ) of characteristic peaks in a powder X-ray diffraction pattern: 14.7°±0.1°, 16.7°±0.1°, 19.6°±0.1°, 21.1°±0.1°, 21.8°±0.1°, 24.6°±0.1° and 25.6°±0.1° (form II (-)-cis-FTC), or 14.5°±0.1°, 16.7°±0.1°, 19.6°±0.1°, 20.4°±0.1°, 21.4°±0.1°, 21.7°±0.1°, 25.2°±0.1° and 26.2°±0.1° (form III (-)-cis-FTC).
