Method and apparatus for applying plastic to substrates comprising placing the plastic 11 on the substrate 12 and applying microwave heating to cause the plastic to soften and adhere. The plastic may be a ground or road marking material and the substrate a concrete or tarmacadam road, path or playground surface. The microwave frequency and heating may be controlled to achieve a desired temperature, and anti-slip grit or other particulate material may also be added. The microwave apparatus may comprise a head 18 that is movable on wheels or rollers 19 and may be adjustable for different step sizes by being telescopic. There may further be a metal carapace 15 blocking the escape of microwave radiation, and a microwave generator 16 connected to an antenna (54, fig 6) by a wave guide. |
