<p>A solid electrolytic capacitor 33 comprising: an anode body; dielectric overlying the anode body; adhesion coating overlying the dielectric; and solid electrolyte overlying the adhesion coating, wherein: the solid electrolyte contains an inner conductive polymer layer and outer conductive polymer layer, where at least one of which is formed from a plurality of pre-polymerized conductive polymer particles; and the adhesion coating contains a discontinuous precoat layer containing a plurality of discrete nanoprojections of a manganese oxide. Also disclosed is a method of forming said solid electrolytic capacitor, wherein the precoat is formed by contacting the anode with a solution containing a manganese oxide precursor, pyrolytically converting the precursor to form the discontinuous precoat layer, chemically polymerising a monomer to form an inner conductive polymer on the precoat, and applying a dispersion of pre-polymerised conductive polymer particles to form an outer polymer layer. Wherein the manganese oxide precursor may be manganese nitrate and the manganese oxide may comprise manganese dioxide.</p> |
