The present invention relates to a system and a method for charging a spare battery for a vehicle. The system and the method are provided to connect a spare battery to an OBD-II terminal mounted in a vehicle; to receive a current state of the vehicle through the OBD-II terminal using a CAN communication to select a charge mode of the spare battery according to the current state of the vehicle; and to charge the spare battery according to the selected charge mode, thereby allowing drivers including experts to simply connect and use to charge the spare battery using the battery mounted in the vehicle. The system comprises: an OBD-II terminal which is mounted in a vehicle; an OBD terminal which is coupled to the OBD-II terminal; a first regulator to output a voltage inputted from the OBD terminal through a CAN transceiver to a main control unit in a predetermined voltage; the CAN transceiver to input vehicle data outputted from the vehicle through the OBD-II terminal to be outputted to CAN data; the main control unit to generate a boost control signal using the CAN data inputted by the CAN transceiver and to generate and output a charge control signal to charge a spare battery according to a spare battery charge mode which is currently set; a second regulator to boost the voltage inputted through the CAN transceiver as high as a voltage before a charge of the spare battery in response to the boost control signal of the main control unit; and a charge control unit to charge the spare battery with the charge voltage supplied from the second regulator in response to the charge control signal of the main control unit. |
