SINGLE USE DEVICE FOR DELIVERY OF CARTRIDGE DRUGS Abstract A syringe (10) for administering medicament from a cartridge (14) having a medicament reservoir and a plunger (19) positioned adjacent to the reservoir for pushing medicament from the reservoir. The syringe comprising a sleeve (13) having a hollow interior portion extending between a distal hub (13a), and a proximal opening (13b) opposite the hub and an interior surface having a first pair of sleeve detents and a second pair of sleeve detents extending along the interior surface. A cartridge disposable within the sleeve having a locking structure including a first pair of cartridge detents and a second pair of cartridge detents extending along an outer surface of the cartridge for cooperatively engaging the first pair of sleeve detents and the second pair of sleeve detents on the interior surface of the sleeve. The first pair of cartridge detents and the first pair of sleeve detents limit movement of the cartridge towards the proximal opening of the sleeve and the second pair of cartridge detents and the second pair of sleeve detents prevent piercing a septum before the syringe is prepared for use. A needle (12) extending into the sleeve from the distal hub for piercing the septum of the cartridge to access medicament in the cartridge reservoir. A plunger rod (16) movably connected to the sleeve, the plunger rod having a distal connector for connecting the rod to the cartridge plunger to push medicament from the cartridge reservoir as the plunger rod moves with respect to the sleeve. The plunger rod being adapted to move the plunger of the cartridge between a first position, in which the septum is not pierced by the needle and the plunger of the cartridge is in a proximal location, and a second position, in which the septum is pierced by the needle and the plunger of the cartridge is in a distal location.
