A bearing device for a wheel is provided with a bearing for the wheel, the bearing comprising an outer member, an inner member, and double-row rolling bodies, the bearing device being configured such that a constant velocity universal joint is joined in a torque-transmittable manner to the bearing for the wheel by fitting the stem (29) of an outer joint member (23) into the shaft hole (33) of a hub ring (1). Axially extending ridges (32) are formed on the stem (29) of the outer joint member (23), and grooves (35) having an interference (n) only relative to the circumferential sidewalls (40) of the ridges (32) are formed in the shaft hole (33) of the hub ring (1). The stem (29) of the outer joint member (23) is press-fitted into the shaft hole (33) of the hub ring (1) to transfer the shape of only the circumferential sidewalls (40) of the ridges (32) to the shaft hole (33), thereby forming a ridge-groove fitting section at which the ridges (32) and the grooves (35) are in close contact with each other in the entire portion where the ridges (32) and the grooves (35) are in contact with each other. A guide having grooves (39) formed therein is provided on the side of the ridge-groove fitting section into which the stem (29) is press-fitted. The maximum diameter (&phgr;1) of the grooves (39) of the guide is set to be greater than the maximum diameter of the grooves (35) of the shaft hole (33), and the maximum diameter (&phgr;2) of the grooves (35) of the shaft hole (33) is set to be greater than the maximum diameter (&phgr;3) of the ridges (32) of the stem (29). |
