<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized and lightweight power transmission device capable of suppressing power consumption and heat generation, and preventing a response delay and a shock at the time of power transmission. <P>SOLUTION: When an outer ring 3 is rotated in the advancing direction of a vehicle 100 by a first sprag 5 in which an engagement surface 5b is contacted with an inner peripheral surface 3a of the outer ring 3 rotated by driving force of an electric motor 106, the first sprag 5 is tilted by frictional force generated at a contact point between an inner peripheral surface 3a and the engagement surface 5b, and the engagement surfaces 5a, 5b of the first sprag 5 are engaged with the inner ring 2 and the outer ring 3. Thereby, relative rotation between the inner ring 2 and the outer ring 3 are restricted to transmit the driving force. Since a conventional electromagnet and an electromagnetic coil are not necessary, the power transmission device 1 can be made small-sized and lightweight, so that power consumption and heat generation can be suppressed.
