Disclosed in the present invention are a separator and an electrochemical device containing the same. The separator according to the present invention comprises a non-woven fabric base material consisting of fibers and having multiple pores between the fibers; and a polymer coated layer formed on a part or the whole part of the surface of the fibers, wherein the polymer coated layer includes a polymer having the tensile strength of 80 MPa or more, tensile elasticity and curved elasticity of 3,000 MPa or more respectively. The separator according to the present invention reduces the costs for manufacturing an electrochemical device and prevents current leakage and improves the mechanical strength by controlling the pore size existing on the non-wove fabric base material. |
