An output voltage Vout1 of an active filter circuit (10) that steps up and smoothes a DC voltage Vin is converted into an AC voltage by an inverter circuit (20). The active filter circuit (10) includes a capacitor (Cdc) and a rectifier device (11 S) connected between an input node and an output node. Further, an inductor (L1) one end of which is connected to the input node and the other end of which is connected the output node through the rectifier device (11S), and a switch device (12S) connected between the other end and a low-potential-side line, and a first control circuit (30) for the switch device (12S) are provided. The inductor (L1) stores energy while the switch device (12S) is on and releases the energy while the switch device (12S) is off. The rectifier device (11S) conducts in such a manner that the stored energy of the inductor (L1) is released. As a result, an inverter apparatus is provided in which the ripple of an input voltage of an inverter circuit can be sufficiently suppressed without using a smoothing capacitor with a high capacitance.
