Prodn. of Ag salts (I) of organic carboxylic acids (II) comprises mixing (II) and a weakly basic organic amine (III) with a water-soluble Ag salt (IV) and then reacting these in soln. (II) pref. is a 10-40, esp. 18-35C aliphatic acid, partic. behenic or stearic acid, whilst (III) has a pKa value of max. 9 and pref. is a di- or tri-alkanolamine. (I) are used in photothermographic material and are stable to light and heat and can be produced in fine-grained form.
