JAPANESE CHARACTER LAYOUT ON PORTABLE PHONE KEY PAD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character layout by which characters can be easily recognized, and which can be conveniently used, and can significantly improve typing efficiency of Japanese characters.SOLUTION: A full configuration chart composed of character stages and character columns is created, in which the whole Japanese characters are sorted by series on the basis of the Japanese syllabary set according to a five-stage rule of Japanese characters. Then, a character configuration chart for use with a keypad is created according to language analysis and the characters are arranged on a portable phone keypad composed of 12 key buttons including 10 numeric key buttons and 2 function key buttons, sequentially as follows: "KA GA" on a numeric key button 1; "SA ZA" on a numeric key button 2; "I i" on a numeric key button 3; "TA DA" on a numeric key button 4; "NA MA" on a numeric key button 5; "U u" on a numeric key button 6; "HA BA PA" on a numeric key button 7; "YA ya" on a numeric key button 8; "E e" on a numeric key button 9; "RA WA" on a function key button *; "A a" on a numeric key button 0; and "O o" on a function key button #.
