PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that restrains deterioration of a synthesized image resulting from synthesis of an input image with an OSD (on-screen display) image.SOLUTION: A projector 1 comprises an image synthesizing unit 110 that generates a synthesized image resulting from synthesis of an input image with an OSD image, a measurable area setting unit 122 that sets in the synthesized image a measurable area on the basis of an OSD display area and a normal measurable area, a spreading area calculating unit 126 that calculates characteristic quantities regarding the luminance in the measurable area, and a spread processing unit 134 that spreads the range of brightness gradation of the synthesized image on the basis of the characteristic quantities. The measurable area setting unit 122, when no OSD image is to be synthesized, uses the normal measurable area as the measurable area or, when no OSD image is to be synthesized but at least part of the OSD display area overlaps the normal measurable area, so sets the measurable area as to include the OSD display area and the normal measurable area. |
