<p>1514954 Branching pipes WAVIN BV 27 Aug 1975 [28 Aug 1974] 35368/75 Heading F2G A device for welding a branch tube part 11 on to a main pipe 5 of plastics material comprises two pairs of upper and lower shells 2a, 3a and 2b, 3b which are spaced along the length of the pipe 5 and which may be clamped around the pipe by means of a lock member 4 to reinforce the main pipe against deformation, a holding member 13 for the branch tube part, the member 13 being reciprocable toward and away from the pipe 5 by means of a push rod 20 slidable in a fixed bridge 18 and a heating member 9 mounted on a pivot 21 and having a surface 15 engageable with the pipe 5 through recesses formed in the shells 3a, 3b and a surface 15a engageable with the surface of the branch tube part 11 which is to be welded, the arrangement being such that with the heating member 9 in the position shown the surfaces to be welded are heated, the holding member 13 is then retracted to allow removal of the heating member 9 and the branch tube part 11 is then pressed on to the pipe 5 using the push rod 20 to effect the welding step. The temperature of the heating member 9 is adjustable so that the temperatures of the main pipe and the branch tube part are different and the edges of the heating member 9 are constructed so that they are gradually and increasingly spaced from the pipe 5 to provide a gradual distribution of temperature so as not to weaken the walls of the pipe 5 which is otherwise supported between the shells 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b. The push rod 20 acts on the holding member 13 by way of a spring 14 to determine the compressive force being applied to the branch tube part 11.</p> |
