<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film which permits lower reflection thereof and can prevent interference fringes from occurring, and to provide a method for manufacturing of the optical film. <P>SOLUTION: The optical film is made by disposing a hard coat layer, a high gradient-index hard coat layer and a low refractive index layer on a substrate, wherein a refractive index in the neighborhood of an interface between the hard coat layer and the substrate is continuously changed or a refractive index of the hard coat layer is approximated to the refractive index of the substrate. Further, the optical film is made by disposing a high gradient-index hard coat layer and a low refractive index layer on a substrate, wherein a refractive index in the neighborhood of an interface between the high-gradient-index hard coat layer and the substrate is continuously changed or a refractive index of the high gradient-index hard coat layer is approximated to the refractive index of the substrate.
