<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a development apparatus capable of smoothly bringing a developing roller close to a photosensitive drum or retracting the developing roller from the photosensitive drum when attached/detached to/from an image forming apparatus body, and an image forming apparatus including the development apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: A roller contact/separation mechanism 51 includes: arm members 52a and 52b; a shaft member 53 abutting on upper surfaces of the arm members 52a and 52b; a first coil spring 54; a bearing member 55; and a second coil spring 56. In a gap between a recess 53d of the shaft member 53 and an upper surface of a guide section 70, a sliding auxiliary member 60 including a driven roller 61 to be a metal cylindrical member and a holding member 63 for rotatably holding the driven roller 61 is arranged. Bearings 57 are attached to the positions where the shaft member 53 abuts on the arm members 52a and 52b.
