Solid particles are filtered out of liquids by the frame filter press. These liquids are for example waste waters (effluents), suspensions produced in production processes etc. The frame filter press contains a filter cavity (28). This is bounded by filter plates (20), on the insides of which lie filter cloths (26). The filter plates (20) themselves lie between a head piece (12) and a pressure piece (14). At their periphery, outside the filter cavity (28), the filter plates (20) are composed according to the invention of soft rubber, whereas in their central region they are composed of hard rubber. If the head piece and the pressure piece are pushed together after completion of a continuous filter process, the soft-rubber edge region (22) of the filter plates (20) is compressed. The filter cavity (28) is thus also narrowed. The filter cake situated in this is thus compressed and liquid still remaining in it is expelled. <IMAGE>
