<p>PURPOSE: A wide-viewing angle twist nematic LCD device is provided to perform exact modeling and optical analysis about liquid crystal movements of a liquid crystal cell layer and reduce the total amount of leaked light, thereby realizing a black condition in all directions. CONSTITUTION: A retardation film(50,60) comprises a base layer(14,24) and a discotic liquid crystal coating layer(16,26). The front retardation of the base material layer is 100~160nm. The refractive index of the base material layer is 1~1.6. The direction of a slow axis of the base layer is normal to an absorption axis(12,22) of an adjacent polarizer(11,21). The front retardation of the discotic liquid crystal coating layer is 30~50nm. When the slow axis is a rotating axis, the slope retardation of the discotic liquid crystal coating layer is 7~13nm and 55~85nm.</p> |
