1. A method for accessing embedded instruments on an integrated circuit, the method comprising:
for each key storage unit in a set of one or more key storage units in a data path on the integrated circuit, the data path passing serially from a data in port to each of a plurality of data path storage units to a data out port, each data path storage unit comprising a shift register, the plurality of data path storage units comprising the set of one or more key storage units and a gateway storage unit:
shifting a key value for the key storage unit through the data path into the shift register of the key storage unit;the key storage unit receiving an update signal;in response to the key storage unit receiving the update signal, the key storage unit storing the key value in an update register of the key storage unit; andin response to the update register storing the key value, the key storage unit transmitting a key signal to the gateway storage unit; shifting a gateway value for the gateway storage unit through the data path into the shift register of the gateway storage unit; the gateway storage unit receiving an update signal; in response to the gateway storage unit receiving the key signal from each key storage unit and the gateway storage unit receiving the update signal, the gateway storage unit storing the gateway value in an update register of the gateway storage unit; and in response to the update register of the gateway storage unit storing the gateway value, the gateway storage unit inserting a data path segment in the data path, the data path segment passing serially through each of a set of one or more segment storage units, each segment storage unit comprising a shift register. |
