The invention relates to a roller (5) comprising an eddy current brake (22) having a roller casing (11) rotatably supported in bearings (7, 8), wherein the eddy current brake (22) has within the roller casing (11) an eddy current sensor (13) connected thereto and a stationary magnet (25). The eddy current brake (22) has a shielding tube (21) which is made of ferromagnetic material (steel) and which on one end is firmly connected to a support (15) made of non-magnetisable material (aluminium) by means of a stationary rod (6) which receives the bearing, wherein the shielding tube (25) is disposed spaced apart from an air gap (a) relative to the roller casing (11) and spaced apart from a further air gap (b) relative to the eddy current sensor (13) between the roller casing (11) and the eddy current detector (13). By means of the roller (5) the starting of the rotation of the roller casing (11) takes place while avoiding reversal of the magnetisation and thus easy takes place easily. |
