Provided is a control device for a hybrid vehicle having an engine and a plurality of motors as propulsion sources, the device being designed to set either a first driving mode in which the vehicle is driven by the engine, a second driving mode set through engagement of at least one clutch mechanism, and in which the vehicle is driven by the plurality of motors, and a third driving mode in which the vehicle is driven by any one of the motors, wherein the device is furnished with a prediction means (Steps S2, S5) for predicting a "switch" from the first driving mode or the third driving mode to the second driving mode, and an idling means (Steps S3, S4) which, in the event that the "switch" has been predicted, shortens the duration of engagement of the clutch mechanism which engages during setting of the second driving mode. |
