The subject-matter of the invention is a device for producing linear movements of subassemblies in a casting machine by the application of a large force acting over a short distance or a relatively small force acting over a large distance. The invention is characterised by infinitely variable electric motor drives for each type of motion, these drives being controlled by way of a microcomputer and acting via mechanical drives on the respective subassembly to be displaced.
