The present invention relates to charging of an electric vehicle. An add-on communication apparatus is attached to an in-cable charging control apparatus which is integrally attached to a cable assembly for charging an electric vehicle. A wireless communication unit wirelessly communicates with a terminal device. An infrared receiving diode receives infrared rays having a digital pattern which represents an attachment check response signal from the in-cable charging control apparatus and receives infrared rays having a digital pattern which represents electric vehicle charging-related information from the in-cable charging control apparatus. An attachment check unit checks whether the add-on communication apparatus is attached to the in-cable charging control apparatus, based on the attachment check response signal. The attachment check unit changes a state of the add-on communication apparatus, based on whether the add-on communication apparatus is attached to the in-cable charging control apparatus.
