Provided are a method for recognizing a fingerprint, which can detect an input direction of a fingerprint inputted from a user to quickly accurately authenticate the user which inputs the fingerprint and an apparatus thereof. According to the present invention, the method for recognizing the fingerprint comprises steps of: detecting an input of a fingerprint which is inputted from a user; generating fingerprint data including an input direction angle of the fingerprint; and authenticating a user which inputs the fingerprint, based on the input direction angle.
