<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the startability of an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: A front stage phase adjusting unit 20 which adjusts a front stage phase of a front stage intermediate rotor 22 with respect to a crank shaft 4 has: a front stage stopper mechanism 23 which regulates the further advance of the front stage phase by locking the front stage intermediate rotor 22 at a front stage most advance phase Pau as the front stage phase; a front stage lock mechanism 24 which locks the front stage phase reaching the front stage most advance phase Pad at a start; and a front stage energization member 25 which energizes the front stage intermediate rotor 22 to an advance direction. A rear stage phase adjusting unit 30 which adjusts a rear stage phase of an intake cam shaft 3 with respect to a rear stage intermediate rotor 31 while receiving cam torque which is decentered to the advance direction in average has: a rear stage stopper mechanism 33 which regulates the further advance of a rear stage phase by locking the intake cam shaft 3 at a rear stage most advance phase Prd as the rear stage phase; and a rear stage lock mechanism 34 which locks the rear stage phase reaching the rear stage most advance phase Prd at a start.</p> |
