PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus which is suitable for paste circulation for preventing gelation of a paste during non-coating time and prevention of clogging of a filter element, and to provide usage of the coating apparatus.SOLUTION: A coating apparatus 1 includes: a filter part 10 having a filter element 11; a supply passage 20; a coating part 30 which applies a passing paste 81 to a coated object MF; a feeding passage 40; a first return passage 50 which returns the passing paste; a second return passage 60 which returns a paste 80; passage switching devices V1 to V4 which switch a paste distribution destination between the second return passage and the first return passage; first pumps PS, PM which perform first paste circulation C1; and a second pump PM which performs second paste circulation C2.
