PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a binary image capable of representing a multi-gradation image by engraving a base material. ! SOLUTION: An image generation method includes: an image data acquiring process of acquiring image data including pixel values at a plurality of coordinate positions on an X-Y coordinate plane comprising an X-axial direction and a Y-axial direction orthogonal to the X-axial direction; a parallel-line image generating process of forming a parallel-line image by arranging a plurality of parallel lines on the X-Y coordinate plate; and a deformed parallel-line image generating process of generating a deformed parallel-line image by changing at least one of widths and continuous lengths of the parallel lines at the respective coordinate positions based upon the pixel values at the respective coordinate positions. !
