The present invention relates to an apparatus to automatically paint a lane and a method of automatically painting a lane using the same and, more specifically, to an apparatus to automatically paint a lane which accurately detects a reference line boundary to paint by a sensor to accurately paint a lane, and sprays paint by accurately setting a position of a paint spray nozzle in accordance with a detected lane recognition signal, thereby painting a lane while being accurately in correspondence with a boundary of an existing lane; and a method of automatically painting a lane using the same. An apparatus to automatically paint a lane includes a lane recognition member which includes: a sensor unit including a plurality of light-emitting sensors and light-receiving sensors enabling light emitted by the light-emitting sensors for lane recognition while progressing to paint an existing lane or a new lane to be received by the light-receiving sensors after being reflected by a road surface, and a microprocessor unit distinguishing a white color or a yellow color compared with a black color from the signal detected by the sensor unit to recognize a lane and controlling the operation of a mechanical apparatus member; a mechanical apparatus member adjusting a position of the paint spray nozzle in accordance with the lane recognition member control, or opening and closing the paint spray nozzle to paint a lane; and a working section distance measuring member counting the number of revolutions of an encoder motor rotated by interworking with a wheel to measure the moving distance when moving while spraying the paint through the paint spray nozzle.
