PURPOSE:To provide the method for connecting optical waveguides and optical fibers which permits easy connection, decreases the number of stages and does not deteriorate the performance of the optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:This connecting method for optically coupling the plural optical waveguides 27, 28 juxtaposed on a waveguide substrate 26 and the optical fibers 20, 23 comprises fusing the optical fibers 20, 23 to each other, cutting the fibers at the fused part to form end faces, forming the optical waveguides 27, 28 so as to have the same spacing as the spacing of the cores 21, 25 of the optical fibers 20, 23 fused to each other at their connection boundary and optically coupling the optical end faces of the fused part to the end faces of such optical waveguides. |
