PURPOSE:To decompose and remove a halide which is a harmful heavy metal contained in incineration ash or slurry residues and treat it so that it may be safely thrown away or recycled. CONSTITUTION:A metal oxide which is a catalyst for decomposition acceleration is added to industrial waste residues in the form of dried powder, and the residues are made harmless by heating them with a concurrent action to ventilate vapor and causing a hydrogen halide gas which is a decomposition product to be captured by vapor.
