PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detection device capable of accurately and rapidly detecting abnormality of a particulate filter such as exceeding a regulation value in a process of forming a PM deposition layer with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: An abnormality detection device includes a particulate filter 52 disposed in an exhaust passage 5 of an internal combustion engine 100 and collecting particulate matter in exhaust gas, and a particle sensor 54 disposed in the downstream side of the particulate filter 52 and detecting an amount of the particulate matter passing through the particulate filter 52. The abnormality of the particulate filter 52 is detected by comparing temporal change of a detection value of the particle sensor 54 with a determination threshold fixed in advance.
