PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily-producible thermosetting composition for coating excellent in both performance of smoothness and blocking resistance of an obtained coating film.SOLUTION: A thermosetting composition for coating contains: a vinyl polymer (A) having 1.0 to 1.9 functional groups on average, the functional groups being at least one kind selected from a carboxyl group and a hydroxyl group, the vinyl polymer not having other functional groups; and a polyvalent glycidyl compound or polyvalent isocyanate compound as a curing agent (B). The vinyl polymer (A) is produced by living radical polymerization using a compound represented by a general formula (1) as a polymerization initiator.
