PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a sidewall capable of improving low fuel consumption property, flex crack resistance and steering stability in a good balance and to provide a pneumatic tire having a sidewall prepared using the same. ! SOLUTION: There is provided a rubber composition for a sidewall which comprises a rubber component and silica, where the content of a conjugated diene-based polymer which has a constitutional unit based on a conjugated diene and a constitutional unit based on a compound represented by the following formula (1) is 5 mass% or more in 100 mass% of the rubber component and the content of the silica is 5 to 150 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the rubber component.
